Why do we get them?
Scars are the result of trauma to the skin, usually from sustaining an injury that can be as simple and small as a shaving nick, a skin condition such as acne, stretch marks or a surgical procedure.
Scars are the visible result of the skin’s natural healing process and formed when the body produces a lot of collagen that forms tissue that is thicker and tougher than the surrounding, healthy skin. As no new cells are generated where scars are, they often start out being very red or purple in colour, but usually fade to a pink or silver colour over time.
Keloid scars are those scars that are particularly raised and firm and they occur when the body continues to produce collagen after the wound is healed, essentially creating an overgrown scar.
Effective treatment for the reduction of Scars
Thanks to state-of-the-art skin treatments the appearance of scars, including acne scars, can be dramatically reduced and sometimes disappear altogether. At The Harley Medical Group our skin treatments, including Dermaroller™ scar removal treatment, are proven to have effective results on scars of many different shapes and sizes. It doesn’t matter how long ago your scar formed as our treatment methods will work to break down tissue of any age and encourage healthy cell regeneration.
Results will be apparent from your first session of Dermaroller™ treatment – each of which lasts just 45 minutes – and we recommend you book a course of five sessions to get the best results. Our scar removal treatment is also effective in removing certain types of Melasma, or dark skin patches, especially in people with pale complexions.
After each treatment, you will notice that your skin gradually becomes smoother and the scar becomes less noticeable.
